Roads have a particular shape that Earth often does not. This creates planning and engineering headaches in certain regions of the world, a case in point being Colorado's Rocky Mountains. Engineers originally thought it was impossible to create an interstate highway west of Denver until years of research and planning led to the construction of the Eisenhower Tunnel, Vail Pass, and the I-70 mountain corridor.
